The Bahrain Space Agency participated in the fifth regular meeting of heads of space agencies from Artemis Accords member states. Held on the sidelines of the International Astronautical Congress in Antalya, the session gathered leadership from partner nations to evaluate progress and align strategic objectives for international space exploration.
The high-level meeting focused on reviewing the outputs of technical working groups established during earlier workshops in Peru. Delegates evaluated joint priorities, operational guidelines, and framework implementations designed to promote safe and sustainable space operations.
High-Level Representation and Strategic Proposals
Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mohammed Ebrahim Al Aseeri and Space Engineer Yaqoob Al Qassab represented the Kingdom during the assembly.
During working sessions, the Bahraini delegation presented specific proposals aimed at enhancing multilateral collaboration across the alliance. Representatives provided legal and policy input on proposed governance initiatives, reviewed active working papers, and evaluated future scientific projects designed to align with the core principles of the accords.
Bahrain joined the multilateral agreement in March 2022 as its 17th signatory nation. The accords have since expanded to include 76 member states, uniting established spacefaring nations and emerging space programs under a common set of principles.
National Space Development Context
Participation in the alliance provides the Kingdom with direct access to technical expertise, shared space data, and joint research opportunities with international institutions. By embedding its space program within international regulatory frameworks, the Bahrain Space Agency continues to leverage global partnerships to support its national strategy, train local technical talent, and build a sustainable domestic space industry.
Established in 2020, the Artemis Accords serve as a non-binding set of principles and guidelines designed to govern the civil exploration and practical use of outer space, the Moon, Mars, and other celestial bodies for peaceful purposes.
