Oman
The Oman section of Spacetech in Gulf covers the Sultanate’s strategic emergence as a unique “Gateway to Space” for the Middle East. Leveraging its advantageous proximity to the equator and expansive coastal deserts, Oman has moved beyond being a technology consumer to becoming a critical provider of regional launch infrastructure and space-age intelligence. This transformation is guided by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) and is central to the nation’s “Oman Vision 2040” diversification goals.
A primary pillar of Oman’s strategy is the Etlaq Spaceport in Duqm. As the first commercial launch complex in the MENA region, Etlaq is positioning itself as a fast-track hub for global startups. Following the successful sub-orbital flight of the Duqm-1 rocket in late 2024, the spaceport has established a streamlined 45-day regulatory approval process. In early 2026, the facility officially activated its “Space Technology Hub,” providing a sandbox for international partners—including Spain’s PLD Space—to test rocket systems and satellite tracking technologies ahead of full orbital operations scheduled for 2027.
In the downstream sector, Oman is making significant strides in Data Sovereignty. The Oman Lens project is currently expanding its satellite constellation, with its second satellite featuring a world-class 50-centimeter resolution imaging capability. Simultaneously, the Sultanate is preparing for the launch of OmanSat-1, its first sovereign software-defined communications satellite. Managed by Space Communication Technologies (SCT), OmanSat-1 will provide secure, high-throughput connectivity for the oil and gas, maritime, and defense sectors, covering the Sultanate and extending into East Africa and Central Asia.
At Spacetech in Gulf, we highlight Oman’s ability to blend high-tech industrialization with environmental stewardship. From the Space Settlement Centre designed to simulate Martian environments to the use of satellite data for “Green Hydrogen” monitoring, Oman is proving that its geography is its greatest orbital asset. This section tracks how the Sultanate is building a complete space value chain—from desert launchpads to sovereign data clouds—ensuring a leading role in the regional space economy.
