UAE and Canada Expand Satellite Cooperation with Space42-Terrestar D2D Partnership

His Excellency Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade and His Excellency Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Jacques Leduc, President and CEO of Terrestar Solutions.

Space42 and Viasat, through their joint initiative Equatys, have entered into a memorandum of understanding with Terrestar Solutions – Strigo, Canada’s mobile satellite operator, to establish a shared satellite infrastructure framework for global Direct-to-Device capabilities and advanced Mobile Satellite Services.

The agreement was finalized during the official visit of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, to Canada, held in conjunction with bilateral discussions with Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada. The formal ceremony took place in the presence of H.E. Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade, and H.E. Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Under the terms of the memorandum, the participating entities will collaborate on building an open, standards-based interoperability framework. This technical architecture will bridge Terrestar’s planned Canadian low-Earth orbit constellation, CaStar, with the Equatys network. By linking both satellite systems and their respective ground operations into a unified network structure, the agreement enables global connectivity while ensuring each operator maintains independent ownership and operational authority over its assets to safeguard national sovereignty over critical communications infrastructure.
