MBSAT and ST Engineering iDirect Partner to Build Ground Infrastructure for 2027 Satellite Services Launch

Mohammed Al Barwani Satellites Company (MBSAT), the satellite arm of MB Group, has signed a strategic agreement with ST Engineering iDirect to construct the ground infrastructure required for its planned regional satellite communications launch in 2027.

Under the contract, MBSAT will deploy ST Engineering iDirect’s cloud-native Intuition platform and Foresight network management system to operate its network, handle signal processing, and manage orbital capacity. The project involves installing Ka-band gateway stations and establishing core network management systems designed to serve government agencies, telecommunications operators, commercial enterprises, and critical infrastructure sectors across Oman and the wider Middle East.

The infrastructure deployment supports MBSAT’s broader program to launch Oman’s first dedicated satellite communications capability. The ground network will interface directly with capacity from MB Sat-1, a sovereign geostationary satellite delivering targeted connectivity across the region.

Strategic Objectives and Implementation

Supported by Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), the agreement establishes a localized satellite ground framework that provides high-throughput data transmission, flexible network architecture, and operational autonomy.

The software-defined platform allows MBSAT to orchestrate dynamic bandwidth allocation, deliver open interface integration for third-party operations, and support critical infrastructure applications requiring dedicated regional coverage.
