Sheikh Hamdan launches Dh1 billion global space cooperation programme

Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum has launched a new Dh1 billion International Space Cooperation Programme aimed at supporting research and development in the space sector while accelerating the localisation of advanced technologies in the UAE.

Announced during an official meeting, the initiative is designed to strengthen the country’s space ecosystem and empower Emirati talent to play a larger role in shaping the future of the global space industry.

Speaking about the programme, Sheikh Hamdan said: “The space sector is a strategic priority for the UAE as we continue building a future economy driven by knowledge and innovation, while strengthening our position among the world’s leading nations in this field.”

“We are proud of the UAE’s pioneering space achievements, which continue to inspire future generations, and confident in our youth’s ability to turn ambition into achievements that contribute to a better future for humanity on Earth and beyond,” Sheikh Hamdan added.

The programme reflects the UAE’s long-term commitment to innovation and technological development as part of its broader vision to build a knowledge-based economy and reinforce its standing among leading global space nations.

Officials noted that the initiative supports the goals of the National Space Strategy 2031, which seeks to expand the contribution of the space sector to the national economy, increase industry returns, and strengthen national expertise in research, development, and manufacturing.
