Equatys, Space42, Viasat, and Terrestar Partner to Advance Sovereign Global Satellite Infrastructure

During the official state visit of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, to Canada, Equatys – the joint initiative co-founded by Space42 and Viasat – signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Canadian mobile satellite operator Terrestar Solutions – Strigo. The agreement establishes a shared global infrastructure model designed to support sovereign national satellite systems while connecting them into a high-scale, interoperable global network.

The collaboration brings together industry expertise across the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Canada to establish a scalable network architecture that allows participating nations to maintain national operational authority and sovereignty over critical communications assets.

Strategic Alignment with UAE Trade and Economic Goals

The partnership reflects the broader economic vision outlined by H.E. Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, emphasizing deeper international economic integration through cross-border innovation, shared investment, and long-term capital deployment.

By structuring Equatys around open standards and shared infrastructure, the alliance positions the UAE at the forefront of global satellite communications, offering a scalable framework that connects regional low-Earth orbit (LEO) and geostationary (GEO) assets into unified Direct-to-Device and Mobile Satellite Services networks.
