Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Ali bin Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, Durri Space has signed a contract with Cailabs to deploy three optical ground stations across Oman by 2028.
Durri Space, an Omani space communications firm under Enjaaz Group, will own and operate the network using Cailabs’ laser communications technology. The project marks a strategic effort to establish long-term optical infrastructure in the Sultanate, advancing national objectives under Oman Vision 2040 while offering high-capacity data downlink services to international satellite operators.
Durri Space selected Cailabs’ TILBA®-OGS L10 station technology, an automated system designed to mitigate atmospheric turbulence during space-to-ground data transfers. The three stations will share a common technical architecture to form a distributed network across the country, enabling high-capacity data reception from low-Earth-orbit satellites and complying with global interoperability standards such as CCSDS and U.S. Space Development Agency guidelines.
Company leadership noted that Oman’s strategic geography makes it ideally suited for next-generation satellite communications, making this initiative a foundational step for expanding national capability and cultivating Omani technical talent. Cailabs was chosen for its field-proven operational technology, reflecting an industry-wide transition from experimental laser communication demonstrations to permanent ground infrastructure. Beyond setting up physical facilities, Durri Space and Cailabs plan to collaborate on workforce development to build local technical expertise, equipping Oman to process massive volumes of space data and strengthen its standing in the global space ecosystem.
