Bahrain’s first fully indigenous satellite will be named Al Munther, as announced by National Security Adviser, Royal Guard Commander, and Supreme Defence Council Secretary General Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Unveiling the official logo of the Bahraini space mission, Shaikh Nasser revealed that 35% of the satellite project has been completed.
Al Munther, which means “the herald” or “harbinger” in English, is a name used to describe Prophet Muhammad in the Quran.
Designed and built entirely in Bahrain by a fully Bahraini team, Al Munther follows the success of Light-1 and aims to enhance national expertise in satellite design, construction, testing, and operations. It will also advance scientific research in space technology, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
The satellite will collect and analyze space-based data on Bahrain, incorporating several Bahraini-developed innovations within its payload. Its mission includes capturing images of the kingdom and its surrounding waters while providing valuable data to support multiple sectors, as outlined by the National Space Science Agency.
